Notes from our reviewers

The CLEAN collection is hand-picked and rigorously reviewed for scientific accuracy and classroom effectiveness. Read what our review team had to say about this resource below or learn more about how CLEAN reviews teaching materials.

  • Allow students the choice of which story/stories to listen to. Have different groups discuss different issues and then share them with the class. Provide transcripts of audio portions to students ahead of time so they can read through at their own pace before listening to the story. Instructors are encouraged to explain new vocabulary before breaking into discussion groups. Some discussion questions for students are provided, but these are not story-specific, and very few are listed. More general questions could be added ("List the major themes in this story", "What are different problems or connections posed in this story?", "How might different groups of people work together to reach a solution to this problem?", etc).
